Greenwood takes series with 6-4 win over Spartans

Greenwood built a five-run lead after three innings, then held on for a 6-4 win over South Warren in District 14 baseball action Wednesday at South Warren.
The Gators made the most of just two hits, plating six runs to deny the Spartans the top seed in the upcoming District 14 Tournament. South Warren will now be the No. 2 seed in the tournament, behind top seed Bowling Green and ahead of the third-seeded Gators, No. 4 seed Warren East and No. 5 Warren Central.
Dell Henk pitched 6 2/3 innings for Greenwood (16-9 overall, 7-5 District 14), allowing four runs (three earned) off eight hits and a walk. He struck out six. Lance Upright got the final out to earn the save for the Gators.
Braxton Garner and Chandler Wilson had Greenwood’s two hits, while Wesley Flowers tallied an RBI.
Tyler Martin was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Sam Gage and Trent Rice each had a homer and two hits to pace South Warren (22-8, 9-3).
Bowling Green 16, Warren Central 2
Visiting Bowling Green needed just five innings to down Warren Central 16-2 in a mercy rule-shortened game Wednesday.
Eli Burwash, Evan Spader, Joe Howard and Geoffrey Ross drove in two runs apiece for the Purples, who totaled seven hits and drew 12 walks in the win.
Bowling Green improved to 22-9 overall and 10-2 in district.
Warren Central fell to 5-20 overall and 0-12 in district.
