“It feels great, especially with another guy from Bowling Green,” said Hayes, a quarterback. “Especially with a guy who’s been keeping me safe (in offensive lineman Mills). … It’s good I get to further my education and keep playing football.”
Hayes was a two-year starter at quarterback and finished with every major school passing record. He tallied nearly 6,500 career passing yards, 87 touchdowns and a pass-completion rate of nearly 65 percent.
During the signing ceremony, BG coach Kevin Wallace noted that when the Purples trailed in the fourth quarter during Hayes’ career as a starter, the QB was 23 of 31 passing for 210 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions.
Hayes said he also considered attending Western Kentucky before choosing Centre, where he’ll stay at quarterback.
“It was mostly academic stuff,” Hayes said. “I got a scholarship there, and it’s a nice scholarship. Weighing options, it looked like the best way to go.”
Mills was a two-year starter on the offensive line for the Purples at left tackle. He moved to lineman as a junior after previously playing as a tight end.

“It feels great, especially to have Devin with me,” said Mills, who jokingly made it clear he committed to Centre before Hayes. “We’ve been together for four years playing football, and I can’t wait to start another four years.”
Mills said he also considered attending Georgetown College or Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
Centre’s football program, which competes at the Division III level, went 7-3 with a 4-2 record in the Southern Athletic Association a year ago.
“I just want to go up there and contend for a starting spot,” Mills said. “I probably won’t start right away, but sophomore season, hopefully I can compete for some good playing time. I just want to get up there and get started.”
