Chamber sets motel’s ribbon cutting

Super 8 Motel has a ribbon cutting at 110 Willamette Lane from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Monograms & More moves to Cave Mill

Monograms & More, the oldest monogram and embroidery store in Bowling Green, recently moved from 433 Park Row to 610 Cave Mill, according to owner Vonda Victor.

Victor moved in the first week of September as the business entered a partnership with Rainbow Sports and Printing.

&#8220It makes us a powerful duo,” Victor said. &#8220This allows us to do more work on a larger scale,” Victor said. &#8220I now have the facilities and capabilities of doing that here.”

Customers can look forward to more service availability.

&#8220They will still get the same quality service and quality product they received at the previous location,” Victor said.

Houchens co-authors book on marketing

Chris Houchens, online specialist for the Daily News and a marketing writer and speaker in southern Kentucky, recently celebrated the nationwide release of the book &#8220A Marketer’s Guide to HIPAA: Resources for Creating Effective and Compliant Marketing,” which he co-authored.

The book is published by Health Leaders Media and co-authored by Kate Borten, a HIPAA law expert and speaker from Massachusetts.

The book is a resource for health care marketers and gives a basic breakdown of the parts of HIPAA pertinent to health care marketers, a breakdown of what HIPAA permits, and the conditions it imposes for using patient information in marketing initiatives. Houchens is a marketing speaker, writer, blogger and the owner of Shotgun Concepts, a marketing firm he founded in 1997 to provide guidance on marketing strategy.

BBB announces 2006 Torch Awards

The Better Business Bureau recently announced the winners of the 2006 Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.

Bowling Green’s Gerald Printing took honors in the Small Business category.

The BBB Torch Awards recognize companies and charities that are the foundation of free enterprise and demonstrate ethical behavior.

The Better Business Bureau serves Louisville, southern Indiana and western Kentucky.

The BBB Torch Awards luncheon Oct. 19 at the Seelbach Hilton Hotel will spotlight the winners. University of Louisville Athletics Director Tom Jurich is the keynote speaker for the event, and WHAS-AM anchor Tony Cruise is the master of ceremonies.

Business winners of the local Torch Awards are entered into the competition for the Council of Better Business Bureau’s National Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

The public is welcome to attend. Tickets for the event are $45.

Young professionals to have luncheon

The Young Professionals of Bowling Green are hosting a leadership luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Carroll Knicely Center in Bowling Green featuring guest speaker Warren Circuit Judge John Grise.

The event is sponsored by Broderick & Associates and Reynolds, Johnston, Hinton & Pepper LLP. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling 535-1695. The luncheon is open to people of all ages and all professions.

‘Bright Ideas’ resets deadline for Oct. 6

The deadline for entering the second annual &#8220Bucks For Bright Ideas” competition has been re-set to Oct. 6.

No additional workshops are planned, but those with questions can call Jeff Hook at (270) 991-4944 or Buddy Steen at 792-3414.

The competition is the creation of the Barren River Development Council, the Central Region Innovation and Commercialization Center, the Barren River Area Development District and the Western Kentucky University Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The intent is to locate inventors with a potential to start a business making a new product, thus creating new jobs in the area.

The competition offers up to $1,000 for the best entry in each county. Brochures explaining the process may be obtained at local extension offices, chamber offices, public libraries and banks.

The winners from the 10 county competitions will compete for a regional prize of $5,000; $1,000 for second place. &#8220Bucks For Bright Ideas” is funded by the David Garvin Entrepreneurship Golf Classic.

The third annual David Garvin Entrepreneurship Golf Classic is planned for Oct. 3 at Kenny Perry’s Country Creek Golf Course near Franklin.
