Tops sweep pair from visiting Charlotte in softball matchup

Western Kentucky’s softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of visiting Charlotte on Friday, winning the opener 3-2 before prevailing 12-5 in the nightcap at the WKU Softball Complex.

Brittany Vaughn’s sacrifice-fly RBI in the bottom of the seventh was the walk-off game-winner for WKU (24-21 overall, 8-9 Conference USA).

Kathryn Downing pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing two earned runs.

In Game 2, Vaughn finished with two hits. Rebekah Engelhardt added a home run and two RBIs with a 2-for-4 day, Taylor Proctor chipped in with two hits and two RBIs, and Taylor Proctor also tallied two hits and two RBIs for the Hilltoppers.

WKU will go for the sweep against Charlotte (23-19, 5-9) on Saturday. Game time is noon.
