With the conclusion of the 2016-17 NCAA women’s basketball season Sunday, Western Kentucky redshirt senior Micah Jones officially finished as the national leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, dishing out 3.73 assists for every one turnover that she committed on the year.
Jones, from Greensburg, returned after missing all but two games in 2015-16 to total 138 assists compared to 37 turnovers. She dealt five or more assists in 12 of WKU’s 34 contests this season and committed either zero or one turnover in 25 games while directing the offense. The redshirt senior also matched former Lady Topper Dominique Duck’s program record with 137 games played and set a new school record with 132 career starts.

With Jones and fellow guard Kendall Noble running the offense, the Lady Toppers committed only 371 turnovers as a team in 2016-17, by far the fewest in program history in a single season. In its run through the Conference USA Tournament last month, WKU turned the ball over just 18 times across three games, including a season-low five giveaways against North Texas in the opening round on March 9.
Jones became the 38th member of WKU’s 1,000-point club with a 16-point outburst at UAB on Feb. 18 and tallied a season-best 21 points against Old Dominion on Senior Day on Feb. 25, just one point shy of her career-high total of 22.
For her career, Jones finished with 1,068 points and 194 3-pointers, the fourth-most in school history.
Jones wraps up her career with 443 assists (sixth in school history) and 201 turnovers, good for a career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.20. To earn the top mark in the category this season, Jones edged out Notre Dame’s Lindsay Allen (3.57) and Mercer’s Sydni Means (3.54).{&end}
