Hot Rods complete road sweep against TinCaps with 6-1 win
The Bowling Green Hot Rods swept the Fort Wayne (Ind.) TinCaps with a 6-1 win Monday in Fort Wayne.
The TinCaps got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Bowling Green responded in the top of the fifth when Moises Gomez walked and later scored on a passed ball to tie the game, and Eleardo Cabrera followed with an RBI double to put the Hot Rods ahead.
The Hot Rods got their third run of the game in the seventh when Jim Haley scored on a throwing error after Vidal Brujan singled.
Austin Franklin threw seven innings for Bowling Green allowing just five hits, one run and no walks with four strikeouts.
The Hot Rods blew the game open in the ninth. Emilio Gustave picked up an RBI single to make the score 4-1. Then, Bowling Green got its fifth run when it appeared that Gustave was going to be picked off. As he was caught in the rundown, Haley broke for home and the throw was not in time. Both runners were safe and the Hot Rods led 5-1. Carl Chester added an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Bowling Green’s Mikey York finished with two scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
The Hot Rods are off Tuesday and return to action Wednesday at Bowling Green Ballpark against Kane County. First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m.
