BG East wins Great Lakes opener

The Bowling Green East 10-12 Little League All-Stars opened the Great Lakes Region tournament with a 7-1 win over Tecumseh, Michigan on Saturday in Whitestown, Indiana.

Bowling Green scored five runs in the sixth inning to pull away and advance in the winner’s bracket of the tournament.

Tied 1-1 in the fifth, Wyatt Scott gave East the lead for good with an RBI single that scored Asa Buchanan. Bowling Green sent eight batters to the plate in the sixth, highlighted by a single by Jake Young that scored two runs and RBI singles from Henry Phillips and Easton Crawford.

Kip Walden tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out six batters. Brady Boyd earned the win, allowing one run and one hit in 2 1/3 innings.

Phillips scored two runs for BG East, while Crawford finished with a team-high two RBIs.

Bowling Green East advances to face West Side Little League from Hamilton, Ohio, at 4:15 p.m. CDT on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.{&end}
