Western Kentucky’s Oliver Alexandre has earned his second Conference USA Male Track Athlete of the Week accolade of the 2019 campaign, the league office announced Tuesday.
The Hilltopper senior posted a pair of podium finishes at the Kentucky-hosted Rod McCravy Memorial Invite over the weekend.
“Another solid performance by Oliver this past weekend,” head coach Erik Jenkins said in a news release. “He had a solid opener in the 400 and gave us a quality leg on the 4×400 relay.”
Individually, Alexandre posted a time of 47.30 seconds in the 400-meter dash for the squad’s fastest mark of the season and an indoor personal-best. The performance earned Alexandre third place overall – second among collegians – and first in his heat. His mark currently ranks fifth among all C-USA times and in the top-50 nationally.
Alexandre ran the second leg of WKU’s second-place 4×400-meter relay as the unit turned in C-USA’s top time since the 2013-14 campaign. The squad’s time of 3:08.07 ranks 18th in the nation and third all time in the Hilltopper record book.
Alexandre’s second honor is the seventh Male Track Athlete of the Week nod collected by a Hilltopper during the indoor season since the squad joined C-USA.
