With the imminent addition of two gyms, fitness centers in the area appear to be in great shape.

Workout Anytime, a 24-hour health club franchise with locations in many Southeastern cities, will open a Bowling Green gym in Fairview Plaza Shopping Center in the next two to three months.

Greg Parker, Workout Anytime franchise developer for Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana, said the business emphasizes a high-quality exercise club experience at a low cost, with $15 month-to-month membership fees and no long-term contracts found in many other health clubs.

“We’ve gone back to discovering what the majority of people are using in the health club and using that basically as the footprint,” Parker said. “What we focus on is very high-end, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, free weights, machines, personal training and saunas.”

Parker said that by eliminating options carried by other clubs but used with less frequency by members, Workout Anytime is able to reduce overhead costs and provide a value-priced workout experience.

The month-to-month membership contracts also give members more latitude to shape their exercise schedule and eliminate the need to try to sell potential members on the promise of an experience that might not materialize during a long-term contract.

“What we’ve done in a nutshell is give control back to the customers,” Parker said, noting that 20 Workout Anytime franchises have been sold in several states over the past 14 months.

Greg Tibbs, owner of the Workout Anytime franchise in Bowling Green, said that 97 people have made appointments for a one-day pre-sale special involving a $39 enrollment fee at the club’s office in Fairview Plaza on the U.S. 31-W By-Pass.

Another Workout Anytime location is anticipated to open in Bowling Green within a year, Tibbs said.

“There’s no doubt in my mind the Bowling Green location is just going to take off,” Tibbs said. “When I talk with people, they actually can’t believe that the (monthly membership) price is $15.”

In other fitness news, work continues on Bowling Green Athletic Club’s second location, which will be in the industrial park off Nashville Road.

BAC board member Mark Santistevan said that, when completed, the facility at 121 Flex Park Drive will be a little bit smaller than the existing location on Scottsville Road and is anticipated to open this fall.

The second BAC facility will have a full-size indoor basketball court, a room for classes, a weight area and other amenities, plus additional space for future possible construction.

“We have extra space available to go into multiple services as we grow,” Santistevan said. “We’re very excited about it, a lot of hard work has gone into this … we’re trying to get people more active and looking to get more involved in serving corporations in the area from a health and wellness aspect.”
