You will soon be able to get your Cambridge Market & Café hot chicken salad, cinnamon apples and cheesecakes on Campbell Lane.
Cambridge Market owners Mike, Robyn and John Hughes announced Wednesday plans to open a second location for the restaurant in the former Buckhead Café space in Buckhead Square on Campbell Lane.
Buckhead Café, which was started by local restaurateur Rick Kelley, closed in October. Kelley’s children Caitlin Kelley Davis and Chase Kelley are planning to open an eatery called Buckhead Kitchen & Bar in the former home of Buffalo Wild Wings at 1760 Scottsville Road.
“We’re really pumped about it,” said John Hughes, son of the husband-wife duo that started the Fairview Avenue Cambridge Market 24 years ago. “We’re looking to diversify ourselves and continue to grow.”
Cambridge Market has been a popular lunch and dinner destination and has made a name for itself as a caterer of many local events from its current location. Now, John Hughes said it’s time to grow into a part of town with the potential for even more traffic.
“We have always had a great lunch business, and we’re still growing the dinner business,” he said. “I think the traffic count at that location will be enormous, particularly in the evenings.”
John Hughes said plans call for the Buckhead location to be gutted and remodeled, a process that should take three to four months.
Once it’s open, he said the new restaurant will have a similar menu to the existing Cambridge Market, a fast-casual eatery that offers a variety of sandwiches, entrees, vegetables and other side items.
“The staples will be pretty much carbon copies of what we have now,” John Hughes said. “But you will see some new things on the menu and more healthy options. The biggest thing is ensuring that we continue to have the same quality and good customer service.”
John Hughes said the new location will be slightly larger than the Fairview location, which includes a meeting room. He said the hours could be extended. The current Cambridge Market is open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturdays.
“It has always been a goal to get a second location,” he said. “It’s pretty exciting.”
