One dead after two tractor-trailers crash in Simpson

A crash early Wednesday involving two tractor-trailers in Simpson County left one person dead and forced a closure of a stretch of Interstate 65 for several hours.

According to Kentucky State Police, troopers were notified by the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office around 2 a.m. Wednesday of the crash on southbound I-65 around the 9.8-mile marker.

Investigation has determined that a red tractor-trailer driven by Marlin Martin, 34, of Bowling Green, was traveling south on I-65 when it was rear-ended by a silver tractor-trailer driven by Roger Lee Hook, 77, of Wilmington, Ohio.

Hook’s vehicle caught on fire as a result of the crash, and Hook was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office, Franklin-Simpson Fire Department and the Simpson County Coroner’s Office assisted KSP at the crash site.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
