Western Kentucky junior Ryan Wideman was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week, as announced by league officials Monday afternoon.
Wideman, a native of Marietta, Georgia, was 11-for-21 (.524) at the plate last week with a grand slam, five doubles, two triples and 11 RBIs. The outfielder led WKU in eight offensive categories including hits (11), doubles (5), triples (2), home runs (1), RBIs (11), total bases (23), slugging percentage (1.095) and stolen bases (2). His offensive performance lifted the Hilltoppers to a perfect 4-0 record with a midweek win over Southern Illinois and a weekend sweep against UT Martin.
In four games, Wideman recorded multi-hit performances in three contests with the first recorded cycle in program history on Tuesday against Southern Illinois and back-to-back, three-hit outings in the doubleheader with UT Martin on Friday. He had nine RBIs with a grand slam, a triple, a double and a stolen base in a 21-2 run-rule win over the Salukis and in the doubleheader sweep over the Skyhawks, Wideman was a combined 6-for-10 with three doubles, four runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.
So far in 2025, Wideman leads CUSA in batting average (.459), hits (39), doubles (10), triples (4), RBIs (26), total bases (69) and stolen bases (13).
Monday’s announcement marks the second time this season a Hilltopper has been received recognition for a weekly award in CUSA while it’s the first time in Wideman’s career that he has earned top weekly honors in the league.
Wideman and the Hilltoppers begin a five-game road swing on Wednesday against Eastern Kentucky at Turkey Field in Richmond. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
