Company reports theft of brass, copper, steel items

Bowling Green Police Department officers responded Wednesday to Ferguson Enterprises at 119 Ambassador Drive regarding a theft there sometime between 4 p.m. Feb. 25 and 7:30 a.m. Feb. 26.

An employee told police he had several employees move brass, copper and stainless steel plumbing fittings and valves – valued at a total of $5,638 – about 4 p.m. Feb. 25 to a fenced-in parking lot that was not locked, according to a BGPD report.

When the employee returned to work Feb. 26, the items were missing and the chain-link fence was broken, the report said.

The employee told police he contacted Causey Brother Enterprises at 1564 Morgantown Road and found that a man whose identity is not revealed in the police report and another unknown man brought the items in at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 26 and sold them, the report said.

After Causey’s employees found out the items were stolen, they set them aside and provided police with a copy of the man’s driver’s license and a receipt showing they were paid $243, the report said.

Police returned the items to Ferguson Enterprises and described the man police saw in Causey’s video surveillance, the report said. The Ferguson employee said the description closely matched an employee who works there, the report said.

Police contacted the man and he said that he did sell some items at Causey’s, but denied he stole the items from Ferguson’s and that he got them from a Dumpster, the report said. No arrests have been made and police are still investigating.

Burglary –– Police responded Wednesday to ABB Self Storage at 5650 Russellville Road regarding items – valued at $10,300 – missing from one of the storage units.

The burglary occurred between 6 p.m. Oct. 1 and 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to a city police report.

The padlock on the storage unit was broken and a bedroom set, several motor vehicle parts and kitchen items, including pots, pans and china dishes, were taken, the report said.
