Viola M. Woods

Viola Mae Woods, 90, of Bowling Green, died Jan. 22, 2010, at a Bowling Green nursing home.
She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorship of the late Rev. J.H. Taylor and present pastor, the Rev. Roy Sweatt. Viola was a Sunday school teacher for more than 20 years. She loved to attend the Women’s Educational Association and also loved sewing. She was a graduate of State Street School and attended Payne College in Augusta, Ga. She was a daughter of the late Ed Baker and Florence Dixon Baker and the wife of the late Guy Woods. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Douglas Sr. and Richard C. Baker Sr.; two sisters, Lucille Baker Keith and Irene Taylor; four brothers, Richard Baker Sr., John M. Baker, James Baker and Jake Baker; and an aunt, Leola Cole.
Funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at Burnam & Son Mortuary, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Gail Woods, of Bowling Green; a sister, Reatha Halcomb, of Bowling Green; five grandchildren, Charles Douglas Jr., of Jacksonville, N.C., Daryl L. Woods, of Pontiac, Mich., Laquita R. Howard, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Richard Baker Jr., of California and Dathon Baker, of Bowling Green; seven great-grandchildren; a sister in-law, Ruby Baker, of Bowling Green; and several other relatives and friends.
