Firefighter: Magistrates ignoring residents’ will

As a Warren County volunteer firefighter, I have had a lot to talk about lately. In my work, I travel around the county and, since I wear my firefighter jacket, I have had many people approach me about the membership dues on tax bills. To date, I know of only five people in Warren County who are against the proposal by the fire departments: one person wrote to the Daily News and four magistrates who appear to be voting against the wishes of their constituents. Not a single person has voiced an opinion against the proposal. In fact, the most common comment is: Its about time. Im tired of paying my neighbors share. Where are all these people who are against it, Mr. Donoho? Were they at the Fiscal Court meeting? No one else seems to know who they are. Where are they Mr. Donoho?Lets be clear about this. If the magistrates pass the membership version that Donoho has proposed, they will be passing something nobody wants. Furthermore, the volunteer fire departments will not be legally obligated to follow it, and will not, so why waste your time? Get the original proposal back on the table while there is still time. The alternative may not be pretty.County residents need to contact their magistrates and Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon before the March 12 Fiscal Court meeting and actually attend the meeting if possible.Stand up and be counted. It is a reality of life that the level of service that a homeowner receives is directly tied to the level of funding and community support received by the fire department. The Warren County volunteer firefighters have always been there when needed. Now, its your turn.Don FrusherBowling Green
