North Carolina man sentenced on heroin charges

U.S. District Judge Joseph H. McKinley on Tuesday sentenced a North Carolina man to five years and three months in prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin.

Victor M. Garrido, 32, was stopped on Interstate 65 in Warren County on May 21, 2003, by Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement officers for a safety inspection. During the inspection, officers said their suspicions were raised and a drug dog was brought in. At the time, officers said the dog “alerted” on the interior of the truck.

Officers found 161 grams of heroin, worth $50,000, concealed in the headliner of the truck above its sleeper.

Garrido, who was sentenced during a hearing in Bowling Green, was found guilty in May.

Accident – A Somerset man was taken to The Medical Center following a collision at Nashville Road and Campbell Lane at 7:27 a.m. Sunday, according to a Bowling Green Police Department report.

Branden Burden, 28, of Bowling Green was southbound on Campbell Lane when he entered the intersection, according to the report. Burden struck a vehicle operated by Mark Foster, 20, who was traveling on Nashville Road. Foster’s vehicle struck the curb and became airborne, then came to rest on its top.

Arrest – A homeless woman was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for the second time in less than a week, according to a city police report.

Kathleen Danelle Harris, 44, was found on the 1200 block of Kentucky Street around 2 p.m. Monday, yelling and “flashing” motorists, according to the report. She was uncooperative when officers asked her to stop, according to the report.

Harris was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail, where she remains on a $200 cash bond.

Harris was arrested Aug. 10 after residents along Louisville Road complained Harris was hitchhiking topless.

Arrest – A Smiths Grove man was arrested after he was seen taking copper wire from an air conditioner unit at the Bingo building, 339 Kentucky St., on Monday afternoon, according to a city police report.

Michael Wayne Foster, 29, began to run as officers approached, but was detained by a citizen, according to the report. Foster refused to comply with officers as they arrested him, according to the report.

Foster was charged with resisting arrest, theft and criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail, where he was released today on a $5,000 surety bond.

Damage to the air conditioning unit is estimated at $1,000.

Arrest – A Bowling Green man was arrested late Monday night after a traffic stop.

According to city police, Christopher Jordan Ditcharo, 21, 2024 Stonehenge Drive, was stopped on Cave Mill Road. Ditcharo’s driver’s license had been suspended for DUI and failure to answer a court summons, according to the report. A search of the car turned up a marijuana blunt in the center console.

Ditcharo was charged with possession of marijuana and operating on a DUI suspended license. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail, but was transported today to an undisclosed location.

Arrest – A Bowling Green man was arrested Monday evening after causing a disturbance at Lampkin Park, according to a city police report.

Steve Alan Peay, 33, 1436 Longview Drive, was playing baseball when someone in the stands yelled at him after Peay hit a pop fly ball, according to the report. After the game, Peay reportedly started a fight with that person and an off-duty deputy sheriff intervened, identified himself and told Peay to stop, according to the report. Peay hit the deputy in the face, according to the report.

Peay was arrested, charged with disorderly conduct and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail. He was released Tuesday on a court order.

Criminal mischief – Between 12:01 a.m. and 4:37 p.m. Saturday, someone shot a BB gun at a window in the 1500 block of Greenmeadow Court, according to police.

Damage is estimated at $500.

Criminal mischief – Between 6 p.m. Friday and 6:30 a.m. Monday, someone broke into a storage building at Bowling Green Technical College, 1845 Loop Drive, according to a city police report.

A glass office door was broken, several bricks were smashed on the blacktop and roof vents were kicked in. Several storage bay doors were also opened, but it doesn’t appear anything was taken, according to the report. Damage is estimated at $920.

Criminal mischief – Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Aug. 10, someone damaged a vehicle parked in the 400 block of Sheppard Court, according to a report.

The rear door on the driver’s side was dented, according to the report. Damage is estimated at $400.

Theft – Between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday, someone broke into a car parked behind Yellow Cab, 1586 Old Louisville Road, according to a city police report.

The victim left the windows down while at work, according to the report. When she returned, she found the CD player had been stolen. Other items reported missing include $40 in quarters, a Cingular cell phone and 50 CDs. Missing items are valued at $815.

This summer, someone has become highly skilled at printing fake bills that have passed for the real thing. Police recommend the following if you receive a counterfeit bill:

—Do not return it to the passer.

—Delay the passer if possible.

—Observe the passer’s description, as well as that of any companions, and the license numbers of any vehicles used.

—Contact your local police department or Secret Service field office.
