Spartans roll to top seed in district

The South Warren softball team clinched the top seed in the District 14 Tournament, rolling to a 14-2, five inning win over Greenwood on Thursday at South Warren High School.

South Warren (21-2 overall, 5-0 District 14) pounded out 10 hits – including three homers – to eclipse double dight scoring for the eighth straight game.

McLaine Hudson had two homers and four RBIs while Hayden Holloway finished with a homer and four RBIs. Keegan Pruitt added two hits, while Kinleigh Russell finished with two RBIs.

Emme Goss earned the win allowing two runs and five hits with two strikeouts.

South Warren is scheduled to play in the Softball Catholic Classic at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro on Saturday. The Spartans are scheduled to face Henderson County at 9 a.m. and Tecumseh (Ind.) at 10:30 a.m.

Greenwood (23-7, 3-2) is scheduled to face Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Bowling Green 17, Warren Central 0

Hadley Morrison tossed a one hitter with 13 strikeouts, while JaNyah Perkins had four hits and four RBIs to lead the Lady Purples to the district win.

Payton Steward added four hits and two RBIs for Bowling Green (13-10 overall, 2-3 District 14), while Natalie Klein finished with four hits and an RBI. Emma Lindsey tallied three hits and two RBIs.

Adreana Salvador had the lone hit for Warren Central (3-13, 0-5).

The Lady Dragons are scheduled to host Metcalfe County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Bowling Green is scheduled to play at Butler County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Edmonson County 13, Franklin-Simpson 12

Julie Norris had two hits and four RBIs to lead Edmonson County to the extra inning win in a battle of the Lady Cats.

Abigal Hogg and Rayleigh Moon finished with two hits each for Edmonson County (11-12), while Emma Davis added two RBIs.

Lilly Ferguson and Kloie Smith both homered and drove in three for Franklin-Simpson (11-13).

Edmonson County is scheduled to host a pair of games on Saturday, facing McLean County at 11 a.m. and Monroe County at 2 p.m. Franklin-Simpson is scheduled to play in the Softball Catholic Classic at Jack C. Fisher Park in Owensboro on Saturday, playing Christian County at 2 p.m. and Apollo at 4 p.m.

Baseball

Bowling Green 3, Logan County 2

Grayson Newman earned the win on the mound and added a homer at the plate to lead the Purples past Logan County.

Newman allowed one run and five hits with four strikeouts over five innings for Bowling Green (15-8). Eli Kries tossed two innings to earn the save. Drew Isenberg added a double and an RBI for the Purples.

Tripp Wadlington added three hits and an RBI for Logan County (17-8), while Noah Mosley added two hits.

Bowling Green is scheduled to host Greenwood at 6 p.m. on Monday. Logan County is scheduled to play at Metcalfe County at noon on Saturday.

Greenwood 11, ACS 1

The Gators had 10 hits to roll to the 20th win of the season.

Nine players had at least one hit, with John Kincaid leading Greenwood (20-5) the way with two hits and two RBIs.

Greenwood is scheduled to host Bowling Green at 6 p.m. on Monday. Allen County-Scottsville (6-16-1) is scheduled to play at Warren East at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
