South Warren’s Layla Ogden continued her torrid pace at the plate in Tuesday’s 17-11 win at Greenwood.

The junior smacked three homers and drove in seven to help the Spartans win a clash between the top two teams in the state in the latest statewide coaches’ poll.

“It’s a big win,” Ogden said. “We played them two, three weeks ago and lost. That just put some grit into us. We said, ‘No excuses.’ We needed to beat them tonight.”

Odgen is now tied for the state lead with 12 homers. She is second in the state with 41 RBIs, trailing Rowan County’s Lauryn Eastham by four.

South Warren hosts Warren Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
