Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to UAB on Saturday at Kereiakes Park.

The Lady Toppers fall to 13-7 overall and 10-6 at home with the loss to the Blazers (13-6). The loss snapped a four-match winning streak.

Sofia Blanco and Rachel Hermanova improved to 12-6 together in doubles this season and have won the last five matches they have finished. The two played at No. 1 doubles for the first time since the Feb. 7 match at Northern Kentucky and are now 3-2 at No. 1 doubles this season.

Blanco now has 103 combined career singles and doubles wins, which is a program record.

Hermanova now has 88 combined career singles and doubles wins, which is second-most in program history.

Blanco is second on the program’s career doubles wins list with 50 career doubles wins. She trails only Samantha Martinez, who had 56 career doubles wins from 2020-24.

Hermanova claimed her 28th career doubles win, which puts her in sole possession of eighth place on the program’s career doubles wins list.

“Give UAB credit. They played well today,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “We had a great performance at No. 1 doubles. I thought Sofia and Rachel played extremely well in doubles. It’s just us getting used to playing again. The layoff certainly didn’t help – us being off for 10 days.

“With Liberty coming up and then Middle Tennessee, we’ll start up again on Monday and start working on getting ready for a very good Liberty team on the road and a very good Middle Tennessee team on the road back-to-back.”

The Lady Toppers will head to Lynchburg, Virginia, to face Liberty on April 5 at the Liberty Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to start at noon CT.
