WKU announces addition of transfer guard Myers

Western Kentucky men’s basketball has announced the signing of Western Illinois transfer Ryan Myers.
The Brooklyn, New York, native joins the Hilltopper basketball roster for 2025-26 having previously played under WKU head coach Hank Plona at Indian Hills Community College and coming off back-to-back standout seasons competing for WIU in the Ohio Valley Conference.
“Ryan can play both guard spots, is a great on-ball defender and has a toughness to him and senior leadership that will help this new group of Hilltoppers,” Plona said in a news release. “Ryan is an elite shooter and is always a threat when he’s on the floor. I know Hilltopper fans will love the energy and passion that Ryan plays with, and he will feed off that same energy and passion from Hilltopper Nation.”
Myers finished as the second-leading scorer on the Leathernecks’ roster in 2024-25, appearing in 29 games with 28 starts and finishing with an average of 13.0 points along with 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. Highlighting the senior guard’s season, Myers posted a season-high 28 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field with a 4-of-6 clip from 3-point range in a win over Morehead State on Feb. 15. Myers also scored in double figures in 18 games on the year with five games of 20-or-more points and was second on the team in minutes at 32.4 per contest.
Myers earned All-Ohio Valley Conference Second-Team honors and was named Second-Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in 2023-24 after appearing in 32 games with 31 starts and leading WIU in scoring at 13.3 points per contest. Myers also led the team in minutes (30.1), made field goals (135), made 3-pointers (82), 3-point percentage (40.0%) and finished third on the roster in assists with a total of 68 for the season.
Prior to transferring to WIU, Myers spent a season under Plona at Indian Hills CC in 2022-23 and competed in 34 games while averaging 8.6 points per contest.
“I am excited to get the chance to coach Ryan again as he finishes an outstanding college career,” Plona said. “He helped us to a 29-5 season and had a great year for us at Indian Hills. Ryan has a passion for winning and will fit in great here at WKU.”
Before the JUCO season at IHCC, Myers played two seasons under Rick Pitino at Iona from 2020-2022. Myers appeared in 33 contests with one start for the Gaels in 2021-22 while averaging 15.6 minutes per game. During the 2020-21 season, Myers appeared in 18 games with three starts as a true freshman and averaged 6.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Myers led Iona in 3-point percentage (43.2%) and finished third on the team in made 3-pointers with 19 on the year.
Myers attended Christ the King High School in Middle Village, New York, where he averaged 21.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a senior for the Royals in 2019-20. As a junior, Myers finished as the team’s second-leading scorer at 16.3 points per game and earned MVP honors in the 2019 CSHAA-AA state championship.
