BikeWalk BG will host its next free group bike ride on Feb. 22.

The organization seeks to encourage biking and walking for all Bowling Green residence.

The ride will begin and end at the recently opened Boca Tacos and Tequila located at 2549 Mount Victor Lane. Sign-in will be at 2:45 p.m. and rollout will be at 3 p.m.

After the ride, participants are welcome to stay for tacos and drinks in celebration of National Margarita Day.

Natasha Smith of BikeWalk BG said this particular ride, which is around 10-12 miles and lasts about an hour and a half, is geared toward more confident riders.

Participants will cycle through two greenways adjacent to Boca Tacos and travel through neighborhoods on both city and county roads.

“These rides are a great way to get people active, while also promoting safety and multi-modal transportation,” Smith said. “We organize several events and biking events for kids as well as a way to promote a healthy, active lifestyle.”

She said the organization typically hosts one ride a month, with the next one having a St. Patrick’s Day theme.

“Participation in the rides varies and often depends on the weather,” she said. “The Halloween ride is the most popular, with around 75 cyclists.”

Smith said helmets are encouraged and participants should wear light and bright colors.

BikeWalk BG will also loan helmets to those who don’t have one, as long as they are notified before the race.

Air pumps will be on-site for those who need to add air to their tires.

Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. Those who register on the day of the event must arrive 15 minutes early and sign a waiver.
