Two Bowling Green Police Department officers were taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds Wednesday morning.
The incident happened in the early morning hours Wednesday at the LifeSkills Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit at 822 Woodway St.
Officer Ronnie Ward, Bowling Green Police Department spokesman, said the injuries to the officers were not life-threatening and that the investigation will be turned over to Kentucky State Police.
The names of the injured officers were not released Wednesday morning.
Trooper Allen Shirley, spokesman for KSP Post 3 in Bowling Green, said state police were gathering information during their investigation and more details would likely be released by KSP headquarters in Frankfort.
Yellow police tape closed off the entrance to the building, and a few law enforcement officers were seen talking with one another just outside the building shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday.
LifeSkills’ website describes the Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit as a voluntary residential facility for people experiencing a mental health crisis, with care being preceded by a phone referral or face-to-face assessment.
LifeSkills said in a news release Wednesday that the Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit building would not be available for services for the rest of the day, but that all other services and supports would remain available.
“We are fully cooperating with the investigation and accordingly, can have no additional comment at this time,” LifeSkills’ release said, followed by a recommendation to dial the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline or (800) 223-8913 if you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis.
Wednesday’s incident occurred a year after Bowling Green Police Department Officer Matt Davis was shot multiple times while responding to a disturbance at America’s Car Mart on Russellville Road on July 6, 2023.
Davis spent months recuperating from his injuries, which authorities said were caused by gunshots from Esteban Lowery, who died at the scene.
