Bowling Green police were called at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday to The Medical Center where they spoke to Swataveus Shannon, 21, after he suffered a gunshot wound to his right forearm, according to police records. An emergency room physician determined it was in Shannon’s best interest to be taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Vanderbilt does not release patient conditions on people who are victims of violent crimes.
Rodreese Shannon, 26, who told police he was the victim’s cousin said Swataveus Shannon was shot at a party, according to police records.
Swataveus Shannon told police that he went to a party with a group of people whose last names he said he didn’t know and he began twerking with a woman in a purple dress. A man with gold teeth claimed to be the boyfriend of the woman Swataveus Shannon was dancing with but the woman said he wasn’t her boyfriend, police records show.
The two men stepped outside and began pushing each other. The pushing stopped when the man with gold teeth shot Swataveus Shannon, according to police records. The man then took off running.
Swataveus Shannon told police that friends, whose names he couldn’t remember, drove him to the hospital. He was also unable to tell police where the party was held.
No arrests have been made and the incident remains under investigation, BGPD spokesman Officer Ronnie Ward said.
