Donations to theater in Horse Cave a worthy cause

For decades, people from all around Kentucky and surrounding states came to visit Horse Cave Theatre, which closed a few years ago.
Residents of the town sent their kids there on school trips to watch plays. The theater provided kids a chance to explore their talents in the arts, and it provided adults a chance to take in a play of their choice.

The theater helped bring life to that city’s downtown.
Its closing was a sad moment for that city because a lot of people associated the town’s identity with the theater. Horse Cave officials say the loss of the theater left a huge hole in the community.
It was exciting to learn several months ago that the theatre building had been bought and plans were underway to try to return it to its former glory.
Returning it to its former glory isn’t as easy as it sounds, though. Money must be raised to get the theatre up and running.
Organizers with the theater are using a fundraising website named Indiegogo to take individual contributions. The goal for Kentucky Stages, the organization that plans to make the theater its home, is to raise $75,000, which would be used as the theater’s producing budget.
The group is also seeking $75,000 in corporate donations. At certain donation levels, there are gifts ranging from T-shirts and mugs to private performances and lifetime season tickets.

Using this website seems like an innovative way to raise funds for reopening of the theatre. Indeigogo has had much success in other theaters that have used its website to help raise funds. Hopefully, the same luck those theaters have had will repeat in Horse Cave.
Organizers hope other contributions will come in and if so they can use some of that money to lower their current mortgage. They say if they are able to exceed their goal and raise $300,000 total, they will have no mortgage at all.
We most certainly hope that is the case as it would take a huge financial burden off their backs and would allow them to be able to allocate funds elsewhere in the theater
The Horse Cave Theatre is a huge part of Horse Cave. The theater, if viable, can bring much-needed excitement and entertainment back to that city.
This is why we urge people to donate what they can to reopen this landmark so performances can begin again.
