Kentucky youth football team advances in national tournament

The Kentucky eighth-grade team continued its run in the FBU national football championship last weekend, defeating Wisconsin 40-7 in the second round of the tournament.

The Kentucky squad next faces Kansas City, Mo., in the third round Saturday, with the winner advancing to the semifinals, which will be played at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The game will be at 3 p.m. at the Edwardsville Sports Complex in Edwardsville, Ill.

The FBU National Championship is a football version of the Little League World Series, featuring 40 teams competing in a bracket-style tournament to select a national champion in youth footballÕs eighth-grade division.

The tournament kicked off Nov. 26 at various locations across the country. The first three rounds take place at regional sites, and the semifinals and finals take place at the Alamodome, with the champion being crowned following the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 7.
