Police News: Munfordville man dies at scene of single-vehicle crash

A Munfordville man died Saturday night after a one-vehicle collision in Hart County.

Kentucky State Police were called to the scene at 8:25 p.m.

Mark Skaggs, 38, was traveling north on Lonoke Road in a 2006 Nissan sedan when, as he approached the intersection with U.S. 31-W, he failed to stop at the Lonoke Road stop sign, according to a release from the state police. The Nissan traveled through the stop sign, left the road and hit a pile of rocks, causing the Nissan to go airborne before striking a tree.

Skaggs was pronounced dead at the scene.

Skaggs was not wearing a seat belt. Toxicology results are pending. Trooper Jeremy Smith is investigating the accident.

Drug arrest — After a 30-day investigation, three undercover drug purchases of crack cocaine and the discovery of additional cocaine during a search, investigators from the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force arrested Shantaja S. Hutchins, 35, 202 Webb Drive, and charged him with four counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, according to a release from the task force.

Bowling Green Police Department and task force investigators stopped Hutchins in the 200 block of Graham Avenue near his home at 2:30 p.m. Friday. He was arrested and taken to Warren County Regional Jail, where he posted a $5,000 bond and was released pending a Nov. 22 court date.
