Maggie Owens

ELIZABETHTOWN — Margaret Mae Burton Heim Owens, 76, of Elizabethtown, passed away April 10, 2010, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown and a lifetime member of American Legion Post 410 in Whitestown, Ind. She was a licensed practical nurse and worked at a nursing home, but she was mainly known for her ability to sing, singing gospel songs over the radio at age 16 on WIEL. Maggie went on to be a professional country music singer, songwriter and recording artist. She and Ronald Owens were the owners and proprietors of the Kentucky Barn Dance in Elizabethtown, singing old-time country and bluegrass songs. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Sophia Burton and the wife of the late Paul Heim. She was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Heim; a brother, Harold Burton; three sisters, Alma Christine Niemiec, Barbara Jean LaPointe and Rosie Marie Burton; two sisters-in-law, Joy and Faye Burton; and a brother-in-law, Joe Niemiec.
The burial was Thursday at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Manakee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her former husband, Ronald Leo Owens, of College Station, Texas; two sons, Ronald Tracy Owens and his wife, Ashley, of Bowling Green, and William Stacy Owens, of Elizabethtown; a former mother-in-law, Geneva Owens, of Lebanon, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia Ann Wood and her husband, Tom, of Clarkson, and Pamela Yvonne Page and her husband, Jay, of Pleasant Grove, Utah; four brothers, James Jarvis Burton, Vernon Roy Burton and Charles Wayne Burton, all of Elizabethtown, and Glen Paul Burton, of Shepherdsville; a sister, Beverly Pauline Hicks and her husband, John, of Radcliff; a sister-in-law, Faye Burton, of Elizabethtown; nine granddaughters; two grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
