A second man caught in an online sting of sexual predators has pleaded guilty to traveling to Bowling Green with the intent to have sex with a young girl.
Lorne Lynn Armstrong, 37, 5319 Nolensville Pike, Apt. 13, Nashville, pleaded guilty to traveling in interstate commerce with intent to engage in sex with a minor Monday in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green.
Armstrong admitted that on Oct. 18 he traveled from Tennessee to Kentucky for the purpose of attempting to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old female, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Louisville.
Between Sept. 17 and Oct. 18, Armstrong engaged in online chatting with “kayla_princess94,” a person he thought was a 13-year-old female, but who in fact was a member of the watchdog group Perverted Justice, which was participating in a Kentucky Bureau of Investigation undercover sting operation targeting online sexual predators, according to the report.
A portion of his chats were of an explicit sexual nature. Armstrong used a Web camera to transmit nude images of himself to the decoy, according to the report.
On Oct. 18, when Armstrong traveled to meet the girl, he was confronted by Chris Hansen of NBC Dateline, which aired portions of the sting. Armstrong was arrested by Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies. Inside Armstrong’s vehicle, law enforcement recovered a box of 14 condoms, a digital camera and a silver bracelet intended as a gift for the girl, according to the report.
Armstrong is facing maximum potential penalties of 30 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for at least five years and up to life.
He is scheduled to be sentenced June 30 in Bowling Green.
Armstrong is still facing a charge of first-degree attempted unlawful transaction with a minor, a class C felony that carries a sentence of five to 10 years in prison.
The only one of the seven men arrested in the sting not facing federal charges, John Wesley Elliott, 39, of Marshall County, has pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree attempted unlawful transaction with a minor.
The cases of other men arrested as part of the sting are still pending in both Warren Circuit and U.S. District courts. Jeremy T. West, 27, of Springfield, Tenn.; James T. Fowler, 34, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Richard M. Watwood, 41, of Hermitage, Tenn.; and Dustin McPhetridge, 26, of Kingsport, Tenn., are all facing the same charge of first-degree attempted unlawful transaction with a minor and traveling in interstate commerce with intent to engage in sex with a minor.
Robbery — Employees of Firehouse Pizza, 1703 U.S. 31-W By-Pass, reported an attempted robbery at 2:44 a.m. today, according to a city police report. According to the employees, a man entered the business with what appeared to be a gun inside his shirt. He demanded money from the cash register, but the employee said he did not know how to open the register. Another employee called police from the restaurant’s office. The man fled without getting any money and before police arrived. The suspect is described as a white, about 25 years old, with light brown or dark blond hair and a short beard. He was wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt and fled in a light green or light blue SUV. Witnesses said another person was in the vehicle.
Theft — A cell phone, purse, cash and other items valued at $871 were reported stolen Monday from a car parked on the 1900 block of Russellville Road, according to a city police report.
