Art

The All Kentucky Juried Arts Show continues through Dec. 22 in the Houchens Gallery and Mezzanine of the Capitol Arts Center.

Campus

Western Kentucky Universitys Hardin Planetarium has one remaining show for The Star of Bethlehem. The presentation will depict the Bethlehem sky around the time that Christ was born. Several astronomical possibilities for the Christmas Star will be discussed. The show will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. No one will be admitted after the lecture begins. Children 12 and under should be accompanied Exhibits at the Kentucky Building include: William H. Natcher: The Gentleman from Kentucky; P.S. I Love You: The Hilltoppers; Bill Whitey Sanders: Comic Opera; From Our Toy Box; The Wright Approach: Wilbur and Orville and Their Flying Machine; Ivan Wilson; Favorite Storybook Characters; and In Stitches: Quilts and Needlework from the Kentucky Museum. Western Kentucky Universitys musical fraternity, Delta Omicron, will present its Christmas Musical at 6 p.m. Friday, and Jonas Butler will have his senior recital that day at 8 p.m. Pre-college string instructor Sara Mitchell and her class will have a recital at 11 a.m. Saturday. The fall Performer of the Semester Recital will be Wednesday at a time yet to be announced. All of the recitals are in Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall and are free and open to the public. Clubs

Cornbread Boys, a country music band, and Picture This, a rock band, perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on alternating Fridays and Saturdays at the Ramada Inn. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Ron Cook and Andy Day, on acoustic guitar and keyboards, play rock music.

Club 302 will be open from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Jerrys Lounge will have karaoke each Tuesday and Thursday. There is no cover charge.

Lost Rivers Jack Montgomery will release his new CD, Everywhere I Look! featuring Lost River and some special friends, at a party Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at J.T.s Downtown Deli and Sports Bar, 425 Park Row. Montgomery will be joined by Lost River (Molly, Susan, Janine), Graham Hudspeth (lead guitar), Marc Owens (drums) and Deb Dinkmeyer (keyboard). There will be no cover charge, but they will have plenty of CDs for sale.

Theater

Kentucky Repertory Theatre in Horse Cave presents A Tuna Christmas by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears and Ed Howard, showing through Dec. 19. For more information or reservations, call the theater box office at (270) 786-2177 or toll-free at (800) 342-2177.

Public Theatre of Kentucky will present The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at 7 p.m. Saturday. The plan runs Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Odds, Ends

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the center, 430 Center St. There is one scheduled Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Harmon Church in Scottsville; drives Wednesday and Dec.16 from noon to 6 p.m. at The Medical Centers Health and Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall; there is a drive Dec. 16 at Monroe County Medical Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and one Dec. 17 from noon to 6 p.m. at Scottsville Baptist Church and the center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, 225 E. Third Ave., is hosting an Adult Walking Club from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday through March. Walk at your own pace in a climate-controlled gymnasium and have your blood pressure monitored daily. All ages are welcome and the club is free. Also, the center offers a Noon Workout from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday for people ages 18 and older. Play full-court basketball with a running time clock on your lunch break for a $3 daily fee or $20 a month.

The Agape Toys for Tots Drive in Logan County will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays through Dec. 22 at the Carrico Center on Johnson Street in Russellville. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. New or like-new toys, new clothing, cash and non-perishable food items will be accepted.

Christmas in Lewisburg craft fair will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lewisburg Elementary School. There is a $10 set-up fee, limited space, door prizes to be given. For information, call Nancy Hanley, 755-4916. There also will be singing at the school that day and a parade through town beginning at 2 p.m.

Auburn will have its parade at 2 p.m. Sunday beginning at the Auburn Park. The Christmas Jubilee also will be that day at the Auburn Fire Department. For more information, contact 542-6291.

Athena Cage Christmas Homecoming will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18 in the deGraffenried Auditorium and will feature high school bands and choirs and the deGraffenried Choir. Tickets are $20 reserved, $10 general admission and $5 for students. All proceeds will be donated to the restoration of the Old Logan County Theater. The event is sponsored by BB&T. The Fitness Facility at Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will host its fourth annual Power Lifting Competition on Dec. 18 at its facility at 225 E. Richardsville Elementary School Beta Club will be hosting its second annual countywide Snow Beauty Pageant Saturday at the school. The pageant will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 4:30 p.m. Age range for contestants is birth to 16 years, with several categories. Entry fee is $10 per applicant, $15 the day of event. The Capitol Arts Alliance presents The Shoemaker and the Elves during school day performances Wednesday and then for the public at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. A heartwarming holiday, musical based on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Delight in the magical story of a poor Shoemaker and the magical elves that show him the true meaning of Christmas. United Way of Southern Kentucky is continuing its Festival of Trees at the Sloan Convention Center through Dec. 27. On Saturday there are two special events going on at the festival where sponsorships for trees help benefit United Way related programs. Activities will be begin with Breakfast with Santa, Santas Workshop and a holiday movie will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Cost for Breakfast with Santa is $6 for adults and $4 for children. Santas Workshop is $1 per craft. The holiday movie is free. Story Time with Mrs. Claus and Teddy Bear Tea Party will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Story Time is free. The tea party is $5 per person. Advance ticket purchase is required for the breakfast and tea party.
