Nolin Lake State Park, in cooperation with Friends of Nolin Lake member Carl Suk, will offer a “Spring at the Lake Wildflower Walk” on Saturday, April 30, at 9 a.m. CDT.

Participants may enjoy discovering spring wildflowers such as Spring Beauty, Bluets or Quaker Ladies, Jack-in-the-Pulpit and Rue Anemone along the 1.6 mile Waterfall Trail.

Suk will explain the ecology of the area as you are guided through upland forest.  Guests will hike past a fruit producing pawpaw patch as well as a very large population of walking fern.

Participants are asked to meet at the parking lot above the boat ramp near the trail head at 9 a.m. The trail is a moderate trail to traverse and the hike will last approximately two hours. Sturdy hiking shoes are recommended; bring water and a trail snack as there will be ample opportunities for rest stops along the way.  A floral checklist will be provided for those who would like to record the plants they see.

Following the hike, enjoy a picnic and relax.  Other activities for the day include a cornhole tournament and music provided by the Friends of Nolin Lake. For more information contact carlsuk@friendsofnolinlake.org
