Girls’ Prep Basketball Previews

1. Edmonson County

23-9 last year

The Lady Cats seem poised to rise to the top of the district, with plenty of experience headlined by senior guards Caitlin Simon and Peyton Martin – who combined for more than 36 points and nine rebounds last season.

2. Grayson County

22-11 last year

New coach Josh Basham will look to keep the Lady Cougars’ District 12 dominance intact.

Grayson County loses four seniors, including leading scorer Grace White, but brings back senior forward Hannah Saltsman.

3. Butler County

12-17 last year

The Lady Bears must replace the top three scorers from last season – including leading scorer Chloe Flener – with a roster that is still gaining experience.

Forward Maddie Murphy is the lone returning senior, with Maddie Cardwell one of five juniors.

4. Whitesville Trinity

18-13 last year

The Lady Raiders were winless in district play last season, but new coach John Cummings brings back his two leading scorers in Erin Kinsey and Cassidy Morris.

1. Logan County

10-21 last year

The Lady Cougars roster doesn’t have any seniors, but there is still plenty of talent – led by sophomore Kennedy Nichols. The junior class includes Carlie Alvis, Sarah Hale, Blayke Bingham and Hallie Borders. Nichols is one of five sophomores on the roster.

2. Todd County Central

6-23 last year

The Lady Rebels return their top three scorers, seniors Bailey Conquest and Alexis O’Daniel and junior Amy Brumfield, but must improve on a defense that allowed the third-most points in the region last season.

3. Russellville

11-20 last year

The Lady Panthers earned a trip to the region tournament last season, but have plenty of questions entering this season. Shannon Booth replaces Calvin Head as head coach, while junior guard Deshale LaBlanc and seniors Tatyana Peterson and Gabbi Poirier will be asked to fill the void left from the graduation of leading scorer and rebounder Loreal Chaney.

4. Franklin-Simpson

15-16 last year

First-year coach Cody Rich inherits a team that lost 90 percent of its scoring from last season.

1. Barren County

20-13 last year

The Trojanettes will look to build off a strong finish last season when Barren County won 13 of its final 18 and earned its first trip to the Region 4 Tournament since 2009. Leading scorer Elizabeth Bertram is back, along with junior guard Bailey Pedigo.

2. Allen County-Scottsville

14-16 last year

The Lady Patriots will rely heavily on two of the top players in the region, junior forwards Sarah Sutton and Mason Towery. Senior Sydney Day is also back, but ACS’s depth has already taken a hit with Allison Meador suffering a preseason knee injury.

3. Glasgow

25-4 last year

Glasgow returns three starters, but will have to replace its top two scorers. Junior forward Amanda Lee and senior guard Kaylyn Hale will provide the experience, with Brianna Viers, Ashanti Gore,

4. Monroe County

31-4 last year

Clifton Harris replaces longtime coach Dwayne Murray, inheriting a roster that loses seven seniors from a team that fell one game short of a region title.
