Yarbrough’s solid pitching lifts WC South 10s to district title game

Warren County South’s 9- and 10-year-old all-stars advanced to the District 1 Tournament championship game with an 11-4 win over Warren County North on Monday in Owensboro.

James Yarbrough delivered a solid pitching performance for WC South, striking out nine batters in 4 2/3 innings to earn the win.

Joseph Fentress and Sonny Price each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs each for WC South. Camden Page also drove in a pair of runs in the win.

For WC North, Weston Akins and Tripp Cunningham each went 2-for-3 and Rhett Bullock and Briggs Young both finished with 2-for-4 days at the plate.

WC South will face Owensboro Southern in Tuesday’s District 1 championship at Owensboro’s Country Heights Park. Game time is 5 p.m.

Owensboro Southern 9, Bowling Green East 1

Bowling Green East’s season came to a close Monday with a 9-1 loss to Owensboro Southern in the District 1 Tournament semifinals in Owensboro.

Warren Co. South 12, Daviess Co. 0

Levi Wyatt fired a shutout as Warren County South advanced to the semifinals with a 12-0 win over Daviess County in District 1 Tournament pool play Monday in Owensboro.

Wyatt finished with six strikeouts while allowing only one hit in three innings.

Carter Burns, Ethan Wheeler, Owen Perkins and Isaiah Willis each had RBI hits for WC South.

Jake Carter tallied two stolen bases, adding to his team-leading seven in the tournament so far.

Bowling Green East 14, Franklin 0

Bowling Green East used a 15-hit attack to roll past Franklin 14-0 in District 1 Tournament pool play on Monday in Owensboro.

Hudson Nottmeier, Griffin Veazey, Miles Richey, Christopher Cohron and Andru Jones each pitched a scoreless inning for BG East, combining for seven strikeouts while allowing only two hits. Nottmeier, the starter, got the win.

Offensively, Embree Dotson was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Nottmeier had two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Jackson Lee, Blake Richey and Sam Holder each had two hits and drove in a run for BG East.

BG East continues pool play against Warren County North on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Bowling Green East 12, Logan Co. 0

Chaze Huff and William Howard combined for a one-hitter as Bowling Green East rolled to a 12-0 win over Logan County in District 1 Tournament pool play on Monday in Owensboro.

Evan Schallert and Sol Guyer had two hits each for BG East, which finished with 10 hits in the win. William Alexander added a two-run homer for BG East, who will play Hopkinsville on Tuesday.

Warren Co. South 4, Franklin 3

Warren County South finished pool play on a high note Monday, topping Franklin 4-3 in the District 1 Tournament in Owensboro.

WC South’s Rylan Graves and Nathan Howard combined to allow only four hits while striking out 15 in the win.

Mason Gardner and Nathan Howard had multiple-hit games for WC South, while Logan Talley and Graves drove in runs.

WC South ended pool play with a 1-3 record.
