WKU track and field heads to nationals
Western Kentucky’s track and field program will be sending one relay and three athletes this week to Eugene, Ore., for the National Championships at Hayward Field. The meet begins Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. CDT on ESPNU and the WatchESPN app.
The four-day event will be streamed live on ESPN’s family of networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU) all week and live results will be available. The championship will kick off with the 4×100-meter relay and will finish Saturday evening with the 4×400 relay.
In last year’s NCAA National Championships, the 4×100 relay team of Kyree King, Ventavius Sears, Emmanuel Dasor and Julius Morris set a new school record time of 38.60 seconds on their way to a fifth-place finish in the finals.
The 4×400 relay squad of Dasor, Austin Hayes, Sears and Maor Seged are coming off a season-best time of 3:05.07, marking the fifth-straight year that the Hilltoppers have had a relay go to Nationals.
Morris, who won the 2017 Conference USA Outdoor Male Track Performer of the Meet, placed 12th in a 100-meter dash at the East Preliminaries, edging 13th place by a fraction of a second.
Ghana native Dasor will compete in the 400-meter dash after notching an eighth-place finish in Lexington with a time of 45:59. In the outdoor 400-meter dash, the senior currently owns four top-five marks in WKU history (2nd – 5th).
Sears, a senior, will participate in his fourth-straight National meet, this time in the long jump. Most recently, Sears posted a 7.58-meter (24 feet, 10.5 inches) mark to finish seventh at the East Preliminaries.
On Wednesday night, Morris will run the 100-meter dash at 7:45 p.m. CDT and moments later both Dasor (400m) and Sears (long jump) will compete in their events at 8 p.m. CDT.
