Spend V-Day sans Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts

You don’t have to suffer through another year of the same stale plot and characters this Valentines Day if you get creative in your video search.  Classics in every genre include romance so you can’t lose taking a second gander at films like Philadelphia Story, Casablanca, Ghost, Rebecca, Moonstruck, The Parent Trap, Wedding Crashers, Romancing the Stone, The Princess Bride, Moulin Rouge and Peggy Sue Got Married.

But, if you are looking for something a bit different that you may not have caught the first time around, check out these fine DVDs:

  • Benny & Joon (1993) – “A romance on the brink of reality” was the tagline for this Johnny Depp classic featuring Depp’s Buster Keaton inspired eccentric finding love with a mentally ill young woman.
  • Pumpkin (2002) – Indie queen Christina Ricci finds love in this comedy about a sorority girl and the special olympian enamored by her.
  • Heathers (1988) – Winona Ryder and Christian Slater sizzle as they climb the social ladder in this black comedy.
  • May (2002) – A fun psychological horror film featuring a lonely, creepy girl who decides to build the perfect companion.
  • Lars and the Real Girl (2007) – Ryan Gosling plays an  insecure loner who learns how to love and be loved when the whole town embraces his new partner, an anatomically correct blow up doll.
