McDougal wins Boys’ Junior Golf Championship

Bowling Green High School junior Clark McDougal defeated Greenwood’s Jaxon Moss in match play to win the Boys’ Junior Golf Championship on Tuesday at Paul Walker Golf Course.

McDougal defeated Moss 5-up with four holes to play in the championship round. McDougal started hot by going up four through the first five holes and carried that momentum to a title.

McDougal shot 80 in the first round of stroke play Monday and reached the semifinals on a scorecard playoff. He then defeated BGHS teammate Alex Pratt in the semis before winning the title.

Moss defeated teammate Teagen Neal in his semifinal match play round.

Claycomb advances at U.S. Junior Am

Bowling Green native Canon Claycomb fired a 2-under par 70 in the second round of the U.S. Junior Amateur to reach the round of 64 at Baltusrol Golf Club on Tuesday.

Claycomb finished the two-day, 36-hole section of the U.S. Junior Am tied for 18th and advances to match play Wednesday. The former Greenwood Gator now attending school in Orlando, Fla., shot a 75 on Monday and charged back with birdies on his last three holes of Tuesday’s round to advance.

South Warren senior CM Mixon missed the cut after shooting 5-over Tuesday and finished 11-over in his first U.S. Junior Amateur appearance.

Claycomb will face Ryan Smith of Carlsbad, Calif., in match play at 10:50 a.m. in Springfield, N.J.
