Hot Rods pick up road win at South Bend
The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned an 8-2 win over the South Bend Cubs on Tuesday night in South Bend, Ind.
After being shut out to finish their series with the Great Lakes Loons, the Hot Rods broke out for four runs in the first inning against Cubs starter Jose Paulino.
The Hot Rods got an RBI double from outfielder Jesus Sanchez, a two-run single by third basemen Adrian Rondon and a RBI single by Jonah Heim to highlight the frame.
Bowling Green got another two-run single by Sanchez in the sixth, and an RBI double from second basemen Robbie Tenerowicz with another RBI single by Heim in the eighth to cap off their scoring.
Pacing a 12-hit attack, outfielder Joshua Lowe led the way with three hits and was a homer away from the cycle. It was the first three-hit game of his career.
Sanchez and Heim both had two hits along with outfielder Eleardo Cabrera.
The Hot Rods got a strong pitching performance by starter Adrian Navas and reliever Spencer Jones.
Navas, who earned the win, gave up just two runs on two hits through 5 1/3 innings, while Jones sent down the Cubs scoreless in the final 3 2/3 innings for the save.
Jones now has a team-leading four saves. The outing tied the most innings he has pitched in a game during his career.
Overall, the Hot Rods are 8-4 in their last 12 games.
The Hot Rods will continue a two-week stretch on the road on Wednesday with the second game of a three-game series against South Bend. RHP Ethan Clark is expected to start for Bowling Green.
First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. CDT at Four Winds Field.
