Reinhart Foodservice plans expansion

Five years after its purchase of the Southern Foods distribution center in Bowling Green, Reinhart Foodservice is making plans to expand that facility on Mitch McConnell Way in Warren County’s South Industrial Park.

Reinhart was approved June 28 for $600,000 in tax incentives through the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority to help the company add 75,000 square feet to the center and add 50 jobs over a 10-year period.

KEDFA documents said Reinhart is expanding to accommodate a need for more distribution capacity. Those documents indicate the company will add a new refrigeration system, office space and a truck service center.

Reinhart’s total investment in the expansion is $14.2 million, according to the KEDFA documents.

Southern Foods, which began as Bowling Green Frozen Foods in the 1950s, moved to its current location on a 21-acre site in the South Industrial Park in 2000. It was purchased by Reinhart, which operates 28 food distribution centers throughout the U.S., in 2013.

Reinhart – a food distributor to restaurants, delis, sporting venues, schools, nursing homes and hospitals – has been a subsidiary of Rosemont, Ill.-based Reyes Holdings since 2005. Reinhart delivers more than 170 million cases of food and food service products to customers in 34 U.S. states annually.

Reyes Holdings is a global food and beverage distribution holding company with annual revenue of more than $24 billion. It has more than 31,000 employees worldwide.
