UT Martin’s Smith connects for 1st homer of season against Evansville

Tennessee Martin junior catcher Aeron Smith (Greenwood Class of 2014) helped the Skyhawks pick up a road softball doubleheader sweep Tuesday against Evansville.

Smith, who started both games of the doubleheader at catcher, connected for her first home run of the season – a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning – in UT Martin’s 7-2 win in the opener.

Smith added a single in the nightcap, which the Skyhawks won 3-1.

UT Martin (30-12) is back in action Friday at Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois for a doubleheader.

Georgetown junior center fielder Katie Young (Allen County-Scottsville Class of 2014) went a perfect 4-for-4 with a double at the plate to lead the visiting Tigers to an 11-3 softball win over Cumberlands on Tuesday.

Young scored two runs, stole two bases and drove in a run.

Georgetown (28-11 overall, 11-6 Mid-South Conference) is back in action Friday for a doubleheader at Pikeville.

Campbellsville sophomore Kylie Withrow (Barren County Class of 2015) helped the Tigers win their second straight tournament on Tuesday in the CU Invitational.

Withrow fired a two-round total of 169 (86-83) to finish 13th in the tournament held at Rosewood Golf Club.

Campbellsville won the four-team tournament by 15 strokes with a combined 639.

The Tigers are back in action April 24-26 in the Mid-South Conference Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.

Brescia freshman Allison Holeman (South Warren Class of 2016) turned in a scoring with a 22nd-place effort. Holeman finished with a 186 (93-93).

Brescia is back in action April 24 for the River States Conference Championships at Lassing Pointe Golf Club in Union.

Southeastern Illinois College sophomore center fielder John Halcomb (Greenwood Class of 2015) reached base four times in the leadoff spot during Tuesday’s 18-8 loss to Kaskaskia (Ill.).

Halcomb was 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and also drew two walks.

Southeastern Illinois (13-17 is back in action Thursday at Shawnee Community College (Ill.).
