Two South Warren High School students to attend military academies

Two South Warren High School students have been appointed to military academies, according to U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie, R-Bowling Green.

Brycen Lacey has been appointed to West Point in New York. James “Luke” Rice has been appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado.

“As a West Point graduate myself, I take great pride and excitement in the academy nomination and appointment process,” Guthrie said in a press release.

Guthrie said he’s encouraged by the high number of impressive applications his office receives for nominations, which prospective students need to attend a military academy.

“It was a great honor to break the news to Michael, Brycen, and Luke (a Danville student) about their appointments,” he said. “These students have strived and excelled in academics, leadership, and athletics with the goal of obtaining a great education along with military experience.”

Guthrie nominates a limited number of high-achieving students to America’s service academies with the help of the Second District Academy Board. Once the nominations are in, service academies choose who will receive an appointment through a competitive application process. Appointments are announced on a rolling basis, and Guthrie will announce any additional appointments over the next few months.
