SKYMAC Bluegrass Circle Burn
There is an exciting sport taking off in Bowling Green this weekend… one that was the #1 hobby in America in the late ’50s and early ’60s! The Southern KY Model Aero Club is once again hosting the Bluegrass Circle Burn this year on its 75-foot control line circle. With two strings attached, flyers hold one of these strings by a handle, move it up and down, and the plane follows the same movement, flying ’round and ’round.
Control Line flying evolved into a standard contest doing maneuvers like loops, figure eights, inverted flight, and wing-overs, all flown in a sequence. Later, Control Line Speed evolved and these control line model planes have achieved speeds of up to 190m mph! Admission for spectators is just $10 per carload or $5 per person and concessions will be available.
