Man accused of shooting at person he thought stole his television

A Bowling Green man is accused of firing a gun Monday at another man he believed helped steal his television.

Matthew C. Vincent, 25, 809 E. 15th Ave. Apt. 2, is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence after being accused of firing a gun at Filbert Juarez in the 1200 block of High Street, according to Vincent’s arrest citation.

Juarez told police that Vincent fired three shots into the air and five or six shots at him because Vincent thought Juarez helped another man steal Vincent’s television, according to the citation. Juarez said Vincent pulled up and fired at him with a .22 caliber rifle that had a black scope and a tripod attached, according to the arrest citation.

“When shots are fired in the air you cannot determine where those bullets are going to come down,” Bowling Green Police Department spokesman Officer Ronnie Ward said about firing guns into the air. “They could come down with enough force to injure someone seriously or kill them. You are endangering those around you. Even a good distance away, people could be in danger.”

Police found eight shell casings in the area that Juarez said Vincent fired at him, according to the citation.

Police later talked to Vincent at his apartment, read his Miranda warning to him and Vincent agreed to talk to police, according to the citation.

Vincent said he went to High Street to confront Juarez, according to the citation. He said another man rode with him. Vincent told police he grabbed a gun and fired it in the air and believed that the gun he grabbed was a BB gun.

Vincent told police the other man left with the gun, and police did not recover a gun, according to the citation. The other man was not charged with any crime.

Vincent was lodged in Warren County Regional Jail and released on a $5,000 bond Tuesday afternoon, according to online jail records.
