Road plan includes more than $100 million for region projects

A two-year state road plan included $19.3 million to complete a southern bypass around Russellville. The plan was approved by state legislators Friday and must now be approved by Gov. Matt Bevin.

This southern Russellville bypass section is from U.S. 79 to Ky. 100 and would be 4.5 miles long.

“This is the last piece of that loop,” said Jeff Moore, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 director. He said he has been working on that road around the southern part of the Logan County city since 1997. The first section of the road was bid in 1991, followed by other sections in 1993 and 2010.

Outside of Warren County, which was alloted $109,999,000 for projects; Simpson County was earmarked for $37,630,000; followed by Edmonson County, $34,100,00; Logan County, $19,910,000; Allen County, $10,120,000; Butler County, $10,888,800; Hart County, $2,500,000; and Barren County, $600,000. Those figures include the remainder of the 2016 fiscal year as well as the 2017 and 2018 fiscal years.
