Bowling Green’s Dent, Spartans’ Spurrier win Purple Strider Invitational
Bowling Green senior Kristin Dent won the individual championship to lead the Lady Purples to a team title in Saturday’s Purple Strider Invitational cross country meet at Kereiakes Park.
Dent covered the 5K distance in 20 minutes, 33.69 seconds.
In the boys’ race, South Warren senior Luke Spurrier claimed first-place honors with a winning time of 17:09.38.
The Lady Purples won the eight-team girls’ race with 36 points with runner-up Rossview (Tenn.) taking second. Also scoring for Bowling Green’s girls were Samantha Sutton (10th), Lexie Paszkiewicz (13th), Natalie Carson (17th) and Jadyn Howard (23rd).
Among area runners, Butler County’s Autumn Jenkins had an 18th-place finish.
South Warren’s girls were fifth ahead of Franklin-Simpson (sixth), Butler County (seventh) and Logan County (eighth).
In the boys’ race, Rossview took the team title with 73 points. Green County (103) was second and Bowling Green (113) finished third. Other area schools in the 19-team meet included South Warren (sixth), Logan County (12th), Franklin-Simpson (16th), Warren Central (17th) and Butler County (18th).
Logan County’s John Hendricks finished second in the boys’ race. Other area top-20 finishers were South Warren’s Hunter Clemons (eighth), Bowling Green’s Gabe Wiles (11th) and Thomas Tinius (14th) and Warren East’s Will Lovell (16th).
Rumble Through the Jungle
Colton Bullington’s fifth-place individual finish paced Warren East’s boys’ cross country team to a 13th-place finish Saturday in the Rumble Through the Jungle meet hosted by North Oldham at Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen.
Bullington, a senior, completed the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 46.50 seconds. Also running for the Raiders were Garrett Elrod (17th), Trey Colson (30th), Caleb Bruce (169th), Matthue Harmon (190th), Seth Canter (208th), Hunter Oppelt (215th) and Brandon Oppelt (216th).
Madison Central won the 26-team boys’ competition.
In the girls’ race, Emma Steff placed 11th overall in 21:32.80 to lead the Lady Raiders to a 16th-place finish. Also running for Warren East were Emma McGuffey (105th), Cady Schoeck (119th), Reyna Morales (144th), Cheyenne Stark (150th) and Elise Oppelt (157th).
Oldham County won the 18-team girls’ competition.

Bowling Green Invitational
Bowling Green’s Collier Curd fired a 1-under par 71 to tie for second place Saturday at the Bowling Green Invitational golf tournament Saturday at Bowling Green Country Club.
Curd finished tied for second with St. Xavier’s Andrew Sullivan following a three-man playoff. St. Xavier’s Campbell Kremer won the individual title with a 71, helping his squad take the team championship with a combined 2-under 286. Taylor County was second in the 20-team field, 13 shots back at 10-over 298.
Owen Stamper led Allen County-Scottsville to the highest team finish (seventh) among area schools. Stamper tied for fourth overall with an even-par 72. Also playing for the Patriots were Tate Stinson (tied for 37th), Brett Rippy (tied for 37th), Bryson Bonds (tied for 57th) and Peyton Cline (tied for 94th).
Greenwood tied for ninth in the team standings. Marcello Texixeira led the Gators with a 79 (tied for 32nd). Other Greenwood finishers were Carson Sturgill (36th), Griffin Plumb (tied for 37th), Michael Lang (tied for 37th) and Jacob Lang (tied for 76th).
Collier paced the Purples to an 11th-place finish. Other finishers for Bowling Green were Clark McDougal (tied for 37th), Tristen Carter (tied for 62nd), Charlie Reber (tied for 62nd) and Blake Stewart (tied for 80th).
CM Mixon shot a 74 (tied for 12th) to lead South Warren to a 15th-place finish. Other finishers for the Spartans were Chase Hodges (tied for 49th), Tyler Earnhart (tied for 66th), Clayton Daniels (tied for 87th) and Tyler Hudson (tied for 98th).
Franklin-Simpson was 17th in the team standings. Finishing for the Wildcats were Dalton Fiveash (tied for 18th), Chase Wilson (tied for 55th), Dawson Owens (75th), Hunter Crafton (93rd) and Jake Konow (100th).
Glasgow was 19th as a team. Playing for the Scotties were Jansen Dakin (tied for 71st), Drew Richardson (tied for 80th), Ethan Harlow (tied for 82nd), Bo Shelton (85th) and Payne Flatt (tied for 98th).
Boys’ soccer
Warren Central 11, Marion County 1
Warren Central’s Kaung Hein scored three goals and added three assists as the Dragons routed Marion County 11-1 on Saturday in the Boots and Butts Soccer Classic at Hopkinsville.
Fahrudin Alic added two goals and an assist for Warren Central (7-4), which also got two-goal outings from Eldar Mahmutovic and Sibocho Yaredi. Kiza Anzuruni added a goal and an assist, Leonce Ndikumana had a goal, Jimmy Estrada tallied two assists and Ahmed Delic, Kevin Mendez and Eh Moo had one assist each.
The Dragons played Franklin County on Saturday night in the Boots and Butts Soccer Classic.
Russellville 5, Clinton County 1
Hunter McDowell scored two goals to lead Russellville’s boys’ soccer team to a 5-1 win Saturday over Clinton County in the 4th Region All “A” Classic.
Milo Brooks and Dustin Brown had a goal and an assist each for the Panthers. Avery Flener added a goal and Kevin Vera had an assist.
Russellville (7-3-1) hosts Hart County on Tuesday.
