In Pictures: Chuck Wells Band & Rufus Huff @ Wha Bahs Live
It was a night of blues and blues-based rock as The Chuck Wells Band opened for Rufus Huff at Wha Bahs Steakhouse. It had been quite awhile since I’d seen Chuck Wells. As a matter of fact it was long enough ago that the band was called Chuck Wells and Stone Cold Blues. So the lineup is partially new but nevertheless as solid as you’d expect a Chuck Wells band to be. Bassist Greg Walker and rhythm guitarist Mike Clark have joined Wells and drummer Scott “Shagg” Stewart to lay down the blues we all love. I had the start time wrong and got there late but caught the last song of the set and it was fine. One friend said he had never seen them play better.
Next up was Rufus Huff’s first Bowling Green appearance since the Jambodians on December 26th of last year. If they were rusty it sure didn’t show. Jarrod England was in fine voice and did some unreal harmonica work, Greg Martin was in the mood to play (several long solos tonight), Dean Smith has no equal on bass in these parts, and Chris Hardesty was being Chris Hardesty, which is Bowling Green’s rockingest drummer. Always great to catch these Bowling Green favorites.
There’s something special happening almost every night at Wha Bahs. Grab some dinner and then around 9 PM the place transforms into a quality night club. If you haven’t been there in awhile check it out. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
