In Pictures: The Road to Grateful Gathering 2011 with the Pranksters and Fatbox at WhaBahs

Well it’s official. There will be a second annual Grateful Gathering in 2011, and it will happen on August 6th at WhaBah Steakhouse & Saloon. Returning to the all-day music and arts festival will be two favorites from last year, the Pranksters and Fat Box. So to get things rolling as early as possible the two bands put on a great pre-show indoors tonight. Fat Box opened, playing some old favorites mixed in with some new material, and they got some people up and dancing. This band seems to be getting tighter all the time. Closing the evening were the Pranksters who came down from Louisville. Playing some classic Grateful Dead covers, and not just the hits but some of the juicier stuff as well, the dancing continued and audience members could be seen mouthing the words. It was a nice appetizer for what’s to come in August.

Concert organizers Chuck Lauth and Matt Pfefferkorn promise some new bands this year and more surprises to make the Gathering bigger and better. Tonight’s event was co-produced by the Kentucky Blues Society and proceeds went to that organization (www.kentuckyblues.com). The Grateful Gathering is a fundraiser for the SonRhea Foundation (www.sonrhea.org). Their mission is to supply South Central Kentucky school music students with instruments they otherwise couldn’t afford. This allows many kids to participate in music programs they otherwise would be excluded from. So mark your calendar now for a great day of music, art, and family fun on WhaBah’s back lawn on August 6th. It’s great fun for a good cause.
