Port Oliver Recreation Area Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening
The Corps of Engineers is pleased to host a ribbon cutting ceremony and the subsequent grand opening of the Port Oliver Recreation Area, Barren River Lake on Wednesday, April 27 at 1:30 PM. U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who was instrumental in securing the funds for the first phase of development and a significant portion of the funds for the recently completed final stage of development, will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and grand opening. The event is open to the public who are encouraged to come and be part of this historic event. Local dignitaries will also be present.
The newly completed Port Oliver Recreation Area provides facilities for persons of all ages and is ADA (or mobility impaired) accessible. The area provides a unique blend of recreation opportunities for boaters as well as day users. The area boasts a boardwalk that is over 2,400 feet long with numerous locations from which to fish and dock one’s boat as well as nine lakeside picnic sites. The area also includes a large amphitheatre with seating for 250 people, a four-lane boat launch ramp, with two lanes extending to winter pool, along with two courtesy docks, two large parking lots to accommodate over 100 vehicles with boat trailers, a weigh-in shelter for fishing tournaments, three restrooms, and a beautiful day-use area with a picnic shelter and large playground. This will certainly be one of the premier recreation areas in the state of Kentucky!
