FLW Bass Fishing League to host one-day tournament on Barren River

The T-H Marine FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) tournament season will continue Saturday for Mountain Division anglers with a tournament on the Barren River.

Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively in the one-day tournament based at the Port Oliver Recreation Area & Ramp.

The bass fishing conditions on the Barren River are expected to be ideal for this mid-June BFL event. Jerkbaits, crankbaits and jigs will all be favored by competitors. Popular spots for largemouth bass will be near the Highway 100 bridge, while smallmouth will likely be found along rocky banks in the mouths of pools off of the main river. Past winners of BFL events held on the Barren River this time of year found success targeting channel swings with square-billed crankbaits. A 19-pound five-bass limit should be enough to earn the victory at this Mountain Division event.

The 2017 BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 128 tournaments throughout the season, five qualifying events in each division. The top 45 boaters and co-anglers from each division, along with the five winners of the qualifying events, will advance to one of six regional tournaments where they are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. Top performers in the BFL can move up to the Costa FLW Series or even the FLW Tour.
