Man indicted on bigamy charge after son tells police his father has two wives
A Bowling Green man was arrested Friday on an indictment warrant on a charge of bigamy.
A Warren County grand jury indicted Thomas H. Lemieux, 53, on Wednesday. He was arrested Friday, lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail, posted a $1,000 bond and was released.
Bowling Green police opened an investigation into Lemieux last month after his son told police that Lemieux married a woman here while still being legally married to another woman in Arkansas, according to Bowling Green Police Department records.
Lemieux left his Arkansas wife more than a year ago and moved to Bowling Green. Lemieux’s son, Thomas Lemieux Jr., told police that he and his family learned that Lemieux Sr. had recently married a woman in Bowling Green.
Police visited Lemieux’s apartment on Pascoe Boulevard on May 3 and spoke with Stephanie Lemieux. She said her husband was still at work in Franklin and confirmed to police that the two were married in April. She said she was unaware that her new husband was still married to another woman, records show.
The following day, an officer spoke with Lemieux, who told police that he thought his Arkansas wife had filed for divorce and moved to Texas, according to police records.
Police contacted Conway County Circurt Court in Arkansas and spoke with an employee there who confirmed that no divorce action was ever filed between Lemieux and his wife there, records show. Lemieux married the Arkansas wife in June 2012.
On April 1, Lemieux and the woman he married in Bowling Green obtained a marriage license in Warren County. They were married shortly after and the license was officially recorded April 6, records show.
Police had difficulty reaching Lemieux’s wife in Arkansas because she doesn’t have a phone. Lemieux’s son told police that his father ran off and left his stepmother without anything, police records show.
Police finally reached Lemieux’s Arkansas wife, who said she had spoken to her husband and his new wife and they were both aware that Lemieux was still legally married and that neither of them cared, according to police records.
Lemieux is scheduled for a court appearance in Warren Circuit Court on June 20.
