City to look at sidewalks, funding for agencies Tuesday
Bowling Green city commissioners are scheduled to address sidewalks, funding for various agencies and law enforcement grants at the city commission meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at city hall.
On the agenda for the meeting is a presentation about the fiscal year 2017 sidewalk program. As a result of previous discussions and a set of criteria, proposed sidewalk projects would be:
•Warren Way, from Durbin Street to Collegeview Drive.
•Hogle Drive from Park Street to U.S. 31-W By-Pass.
•Morgantown Road from Old Morgantown Road to Festival Drive.
•Logan Way from Chestnut Street to Cabell Drive.
•Gordon Avenue for Double Springs Road to Pearl Street.
•South Sunrise Drive from Old Morgantown Road to Morgantown Road.
The projects would entail more than 10,000 feet of new sidewalks in the city.
Commissioners are also slated to vote on:
•Funding levels for various agencies either created by or contracted with the city. The proposed funding levels are the same or slightly more than was allocated in the last fiscal year. The recommended funding for FY 2017 are: Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force, $50,000; Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society, $92,300; Bowling Green-Warren County Regional Airport, $58,195; Bowling Green-Warren County Welfare Center, $29,240; Central Region ICC, $45,000; Community Action-Public Transit, $252,580; Economic Development Authority, $125,000; Hobson House Commission, $54,220; Human Rights Commission, $63,590; Operation PRIDE, $33,440; and Planning Commission, $467,000.
•Submitting a Homeland Security grant application for $424,994. The funds would be used to purchase 83 mobile police car radios. The city’s current mobile police car radios are becoming obsolete and need to be replaced, according to a memo from city Grants Coordinator Nick Cook. The current radios are no longer being manufactured and service and replacement parts will no longer be available after 2019, Cook wrote.
