Festival will bring a little bit of country, rock and roll

Bowling Green will get a taste of country and rock ’n’ roll at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark with the Lil’ Bit of Country, Lil’ Bit of Rock & Roll Festival.

“You look at America in general. Everyone likes different things,” said Bo Burr, owner of Pickaxe Promotions, which is putting on the event. “I was a rock ’n’ roll kid in Nashville. Nashville is primarily country. If you listen to a lot of country, they’re starting to merge a little bit.”

Admission is $67, which gives “more bang for your buck,” Burr said.

“You have four big-name artists who are national touring acts and an additional four before them,” he said. “We have a whole afternoon of music that’s going to happen. We custom built this for Bowling Green.”

Ted Nugent has sold more than 40 million albums and performed 6,500 high-octane live shows, according to the festival’s website.

“He is the ultimate guitar rock guy,” Burr said.

Uncle Kracker’s cover of Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away” set a Billboard record for most weeks at No. 1 on any chart, topping their No. 1 run on the adult contemporary radio charts for 28 weeks.

“We feel Uncle Kracker represents country music,” Burr said.

Puddle of Mudd is an American post-grunge band from Kansas City, Mo. The band has sold more than 7 million albums. Their major label debut, “Come Clean,” has sold more than 5 million copies.

“Puddle of Mudd is an underrated band, in my opinion,” Burr said.

Sawyer Fredericks is the youngest person to win the popular talent show “The Voice.”

“Right before that season, they teased with him,” Burr said. “He had such a unique folksy sound that it stuck in people’s heads.”

Twang and Round’s passion lies in Southern rap, hip-hop, country and rock.

“I went to high school with Twang,” Burr said. “They’re doing well right now.”

BB Palmer & Kudzu are from Alabama.

“They’re the Hank (Williams) Sr. of country,” Burr said. “They’re a honky-tonk kind of act.”

Rye Davis played baseball at Western Kentucky University. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played parts of two seasons.

“He has more of the modern-style country,” Burr said. “He’s a good artist.”

Brandy Neelly made it to the top 15 contestants of the hit talent show “American Idol.”

“She’ll do an acoustic act and entertain during the change between sets,” Burr said.

The show will be something different for Bowling Green, Burr said.

“I hear there’s nothing to do in Bowling Green. That’s not true. It’s a good time,” he said. “If you want to enjoy an evening of country and rock ’n’ roll this is the place to come to. People have to enjoy themselves while they’re here to continue to have events here. I feel like we’ve brought some good acts.”
